The Vision

We aspire to a multi-modal Dallas that has a bicycle system for All Ages and Abilities connecting people to the places they want to go. We envision more people traveling by bicycle or other micromobility devices for short trips.

The Process

The success of the Dallas Bike Plan depends on

  • a thorough understanding of existing conditions that shape bike ridership,
  • a foundation of strong stakeholder collaboration,
  • and an effective framework for project implementation and assessment.

The Dallas Bike Plan is informed by a comprehensive analysis of factors such as

  • Bike Level of Stress,
  • Safety,
  • Active Trip Demand,
  • Equity, Public Health, and
  • Existing Bike Facilities.

These inputs were utilized to develop a bicycle network that serves destinations and neighborhoods across the City.

process

After this comprehensive analysis to draft an initial map of new segments to add to the plan, the bike network development process emphasized public engagement to gather a wide array of perspectives and concerns about the perceived safety and connectivity.

Input from the community continued to refine the map through multiple iterations, assessing safety and comfort of existing facilities and new connections.

The result was a well-vetted, and reliable process to create the bike network and its component facility types.

The proposed bike network projects resulted in 463 miles of improvements. This total mileage is comprised of approximately

  • 179 miles of Neighborhood Bikeways
  • 118 miles of Visually Separated Bike Lanes
  • 108 miles of Physically Separated Bike Lanes
  • 58 miles of Trails

The Plan Includes...

When the proposed Bike Network is fully implemented,

  • over 82% of all residences would live within a quarter mile of a bike facility
  • and 95% would live within half a mile of a bike facility!

The fully built out network will also improve access and connectivity for residents of those equity priority areas identified as part of the Racial Equity Plan.

Should the network be fully implemented, 96% of equity priority area residents would be within 0.5 mile of a bike network facility. This is a substantial increase from the current coverage of 30%.

The 2025 Map

Here's the final map. As Dallas and the needs of stakeholders continue to evolve, there will be opportunities to make updates to the map. Working with the Bicycle Advisory Committee will be the first step to making changes in the short-term.
