We've Come So Far!
Though we still have a long way to go, we've built a lot of momentum.
The 2011 Dallas Bike Plan set forth high-level, aspirational goals that reflected the City’s commitment to improving cycling infrastructure and creating a more bike-friendly environment. While these goals were ambitious and forward-thinking, their broad nature made them challenging to measure and implement effectively.
In total, Dallas’s existing and funded bike network is comprised of
- 118 miles of on-street bikeways (88 existing and 30 miles funded),
- alongside 233 miles of programmed and existing paved off-street trails (114 existing, 119 proposed and programmed).
We've made good headway!

New Policies & Plans
Several new city documents have contributed to wide support for a more detailed Bike Plan. Some of the resulting new plans and policies are even relying on the Bike Plan to help achieve their goals! These plans all have ties to the Bike Plan:
- The Comprehensive Environmental and Climate Action Plan (CECAP)
- ForwardDallas 2.0 Comprehensive Plan
- Dallas Racial Equity Plan
- Vision Zero Action Plan
- Complete Streets Design Manual
- and Dallas Strategic Mobility Plan
Building on these initiatives, the Bike Plan serves as a roadmap for building out an interconnected, multimodal bike network that enhances safety and accessibility across the city.
